The Mad Hatter (Part 2)

 Hi Loves,

As promised this is part 2 of the update on what I have been up to why it seems I was neglecting you all.  Again I am sorry for my absence.   For part 2 we will be looking at pictures of 2 baby beanies.  I was commissioned to make one but I couldn't decide on which color I should use.  I asked if I could make both instead and the go ahead was given (how awesome that was for me).

Color #1

Color #2

Isn't she lovely.

It worked out as this was a gift for a friend's niece who lives in Canada and it turned out that the mother had a blanket to match and was very appreciative of the gifts.

Until the next post....

The Mad Hatter (part 1)

 Hi Loves,

I hope you don't think I have been neglecting you all.  Honestly, I am still learning to juggle a business, a family and all the social media shebang all at once.  I agree that I am not good at it but is willing to learn.  It would be great to be able to have a way to post to all at once wouldn't that be grand.  If any of you know a way that I can please feel free to share.

Now for today's post, I would like to share a few pictures with you of what I have been up to.  It's going to be a few post as though I have been absent I have been busy.  Hope you all like it.  Before I show you the first slouchy, let's get a little back story.

So, a few months before I made this exact slouchy (see my cute little model) along with a black one for a client (see first 2 pics).  Fast forward she requested the same one as it was liked and taken by a friend.  Funny thing was I did it all without a pattern, but the good thing was I was the one who designed it. I took one look at the phone and replicated my design.

Other creators: let me take before, during and after phones for my social media platforms.
ME:  Being too excited for my order, remembering only after I started.  Oh well.

I however did not forget to take the finished product.  Here you go loves.

Slayed

 Hi loves,

Man oh man how long has it been????? A while... I know.

Well you see 2018, was the last time I made dolls for Things Jamaica 🇯🇲, they haven't reached out to me and neither have I.

2019 came and gone, then there was that year we all wish never came.  2021 came with a glimmer of hope and I thought... Wait!!!  I should make contact as I'm sure a few items were outstanding for me still.

The question was asked are you still in operation? My answer was yes. They placed an order, their biggest one yet.  I was really happy about this as I haven't been in the creative mood for a while and this got the juices flowing.

I gave an estimate of a month for the completion. The first week sees me moving at lightning ⚡ speed (you would have thought I was related to Usain Bolt, 🤣🤣🤣). Then comes motherhood, school work, housework, and my 9-5 among other things and my month deadline was fast approaching and I was nowhere near completion 😭😭😭😭...

I would be lying if I say I wasn't worried... Thankfully it wasn't a hard and fast deadline so a week or so over the month they were all finished.

Packaged and ready to be delivered.  I was pressed for time,  as I was working late into the night with work the next morning, I forgot to take the finished product picture of the keychains.

So loves without further ado here are my beauties in all their glory😁😁😁😁.

We're coming on quite nicely, aren't we?

Squeak!  squeak!

The last doll to be made and I'm honestly in love with the outcome... The way the beret sits on the side of the head... The braids to the side... This girl slayed.

Looking at the picture, justice isn't being served.  Oh, how I wish you all could see them in person.

Bye until next time.

Air Shine

Hi Loves,

Here I was browsing the web, looking at different yarns when I saw this beautiful yarn called Air Shine.  I ordered the green and waited..... and waited...

4 weeks later.....

My yarn came, I ogled over the way it looked and felt, but didn't know what to make with it.  A few months pass and still no idea what to use my Air Shine for, then Petra Breakstone decided she was having another "anything Petra KAL".

I thought to myself 🤔🤔🤔, Rayne, wouldn't that look elegant in the Air Shine.

@petrabreakstone's Rayne

I cast on and within 3 days completed my shawl and my oh my, it looked absolutely beautiful.  It was that beautiful that it was claimed before it was completed.  I didn't get a chance to really photograph the finished product.

The night I finish my shawl
pics not doing it justice.

Winter chills and spills and then some

Hi Loves,

    With the completion of my cowl and scarf, they were delivered.  At first, she was complaining (and my heart sank);

"the cowl seemed a bit big for his little neck" (I tried it on my 2-year-old, thinking to myself)
"the scarf rolls too much" (I blocked it and it looked nice, even so, it's going to wrap around the neck, also thinking to myself).

She took them, paid me and I was thinking so much for my first impression, she's a goner, then a few days after I received a WhatsApp message.

"Can you make the little hats with the ear flaps"
"yes, I can" (even though I have never even tried, but how hard can it be?)
"I want one for my grandson"
"Sure"
"you know what, and one for my granddaughter as she would want one"

Thinking to myself (doing that quite often these days).  Do I have the material as I know that the skein of the stripe was finished?.

I messaged her back;

"I have more of the yarn for the boy's matching hat, but the scarf used the one skein I had"
"Can you find anything to match the colours"
"Oh, sure I can"

I started my research as I had the concept but didn't really know how to execute it.  I watched two YouTube videos, one starting from the top down with it all worked in one and then seamed, the other made 2 ear flaps and then attach while doing the hat (oh, by the way, they were both knitted).  This is where it got tricky (if I had only crocheted the cowl and scarf, this would have been easy peasy, lemon squeezy).

Did I tell you I wanted to make the hat and scarf with the same stitch pattern I used for the cowl and scarf? It's a set, isn't it?  After watching the videos I came to the conclusion that making the 2 ear flaps and then the hat would be easiest.  I started the little boy's hat.  It took me a few short hours to have a finished product.  Grinning from ear to ear, a ran to my neighbour's house to show her my lovely creation (psst, this was after 8 pm.  I felt so accomplished.

Now the most difficult one. sighs..... why, why, why didn't you crochet a scarf... No, you just had to knit with your beginner self.

After doing a bit of thinking, calculating, and more thinking the idea was clear as mud... Sorry meant day.

And after a bit of a challenge, my hat was completed... Now the hard bit. Will my client like/love them...

They were delivered and she did (well I think she does as she hasn't made any complaints to date).

I used the same pattern as the scarf, I just had to modify it to work in the round.

Perfect Fit

It's not her size
