The Knitted Popcorn

 Hi Loves.

"Wow, time flies! It's already the third month of the new year and this is only my second post. I didn't mean to stay away for so long, but unfortunately, there were some circumstances that were out of my control. I hope you all missed me as much as I missed you."

In the previous post, we spoke about the crochet popcorn stitch.  This post will be about the knitted version of the popcorn stitch.

So without further ado, let us dive into how the stitch is made. To make the knitted popcorn stitch we work the same stitch multiple times by knitting and purling in that stitch 6 times, sliding the stitch off the left-hand needle then decreasing the stitches on the right-hand needle until only one stitch remains.  We then continue working on our piece as usual.

In this post, I would like to thank Alexis Winslow for her easy-to-follow tutorial on how to do the knitted popcorn stitch.

Until next time, let's be friends!

Popcorn Any One... Stitch that is.

 Hi loves,

Thank you for being here! 😊 It's been a while since I've said hello. πŸ‘‹ I had to take a break due to some personal issues. πŸ’” This is my first post for the new year, as it's now 2024. πŸŽ‰ This post has been sitting in my drafts for some time now. ⏳.  It's Finally posting time.

It's movie time, so let us get our popcorn 🍿🍿, sit back and enjoy the show... Just kidding.  Today's stitch is the popcorn stitch.  This is a fun somewhat easy stitch to do, it takes a little more time than most stitches to complete.  You can do your entire piece with it, whether you are making a bag, a fun skirt, or a blanket, the choices are endless.  It also doesn't matter if you are a knitter or a crochetier as the stitch can be done in both crafts.

How is the crochet popcorn stitch done you asked? No problem man! I'm happy to tell you.

Crochet version:  The popcorn stitch is worked by doing 5 double crochets (DCs) in the same stitch.  you pull up the loop of the last dc stitch made, remove your hook, insert the hook into the first dc and pull the loop through, chain 1, and just like that the popcorn is made.

Now that I've told you, let me show you. For the visuals, I want to thank Modern Made for her video, which is simple and easy to follow.

Next, I will tell you about the knitted version.  Until then

The Mad Hatter (Part 2)

 Hi Loves,

As promised this is part 2 of the update on what I have been up to why it seems I was neglecting you all.  Again I am sorry for my absence.   For part 2 we will be looking at pictures of 2 baby beanies.  I was commissioned to make one but I couldn't decide on which color I should use.  I asked if I could make both instead and the go ahead was given (how awesome that was for me).

Color #1

Color #2

Isn't she lovely.

It worked out as this was a gift for a friend's niece who lives in Canada and it turned out that the mother had a blanket to match and was very appreciative of the gifts.

Until the next post....

Half Double crochet

Hi loves,

Today we will be doing the Half Double Crochet (hdc).  This stitch is taller than the single crochet but shorter than the double crochet, hence the name half double crochet.  It is also a slightly dense stitch that is good for clothing like skirts and shorts.  Your projects work up faster than doing single crochets.  There is much to be said about the half double crochet but without further ado, let's learn how to do the HDC so we can start making beautiful pieces.

How Is It Done?

To do the HDC you would begin as you would for the double crochet by yarning over before inserting your hook into the desired stitch.  Then this is where the difference takes place.  With three loops on your hook, you yarn over and pull through all three loops and there you have it, one hdc completed.  Easy as pie don't you think?

You are a visual learner

No issues there... Let's get some visuals for you.

Insert your hook into the stitch. Yo, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook)

Having issues with my pictures.  Hope my video will help.

I would like to hear from you.  Let me know what you think in the comments.  Until next time.....

Double Crochet (dc)

 Hi again loves,

Thank you for sticking around.  Today I would like to teach you double crochet (dc).  This will be done using American terminology.

This stitch is not as dense as the single crochet (sc).  It works up quickly and is perfect for blankets, scarves 🧣, and dishcloths just to name a few.

To do this stitch you make your foundation chain, however long you need it to be for your project...

I'll be doing a chain of 18 stitches.

chain of 18 sts.

To do the double crochet, yarn over (yo) and inserts your hook in the 4th chain from the hook... Yarn over and pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through two of the three loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through both remaining loops. There, you have just completed a dc.

We have 4 dc and 3 chains.

3 hooks on the hook

In this pic we yo and pull through 2 of the 3 loops

This picture is showing the completed stitch.

I also have a video for my loves.
